General Questions

What are your hours?

We are open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm. Our first grooming appointment is at 10am and the last is usually at 4:30pm or 5:00pm depending upon the size of the dog and the type of service.

Where are you located?

We are located in downtown Homewood at 1825 B 29th Ave South. This is just up from the area off 18th Street formerly known as "The Curve" in Homewood. We are directly across from Zoë's Kitchen at Soho Square, and next door to Dave's Pizza on the side closest to the Homewood Police Station/Hwy 31. How long does it take to get an appointment?

Our groomers do an excellent job and as a result, word has spread and we are very fortunate to have a lot of demand on our services. Up until February 2009, the typical wait was 4 - 6 weeks to get an appointment. As of this month, we have brought two additional groomers on board and have been able to cut that time down for those who do not have a preference of groomer. For those who specify a particular groomer, the wait may still be as long as 6 weeks. Saturdays also book up quicker than other days of the week.

Can I set up a standing appointment for my dog?

Absolutely! In fact, we recommend that all of our regular customers do this to ensure that you are able to keep your dog on a regular grooming schedule and do not have to wait for an appointment. If this is not practical for you, we at least encourage anyone to schedule the next appointment before leaving each time you pick up your dog, although depending upon the frequency of your visits, this may not be enough prior notice if you want to be with a particular groomer.

Can I drop my dog off in the morning and pick him up after work.

The Rub-a-Dub Dog business model was designed for those who do not like leaving their dogs at the groomers all day long and having them kept in cages when not being groomed. Our customers prefer the fact that we work by appointment only and are able to provide the personal attention that is not possible in traditional grooming environments. To allow a dog to be dropped off in the morning and picked up in the evening would negate our value proposition - not only for you and your dog, but for our other customers who want their dogs to receive our undivided attention when they are here. We do understand that some people who are seeking our level of service work during the week and as a result, offer Saturday appointments.

How long will my dog have to be there for his service?

Factors that affect the time needed are the size of the dog, the breed of the dog (or the type of hair when considering mixed breeds) and the complexity of the cut. On the first appointment, we allow the "typical" time and then once we get to know your dog we may increase or decrease that time based upon their individual needs. For your first appointment, please let us know of any factors that may require extra time, such as severe tangles or if it's your puppy's first groom. Using some common breeds of dogs, as follows are time estimates to perform the typical services for that breed.

Chihuahua Bath & Biscuit Package 30 minutes
Mini Schnauzer Bath & Biscuit + Full Groom 1-1 ½ hours
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Dapper Dog Package 1 hour
Yorkie Bath & Biscuit + Full Groom + Ear Pluck 1 hour
Shih Tzu Bath & Biscuit + Full Groom + Ear Pluck 1 ½ hours
Maltese Bath & Biscuit + Full Groom + Ear Pluck 1 ½ hours
Maltipoo Bath & Biscuit + Full Groom + Ear Pluck 1 ½ hours
Cocker Spaniel Bath & Biscuit + Full Groom 1 ½ - 2 hours
Toy Poodle Bath & Biscuit + Full Groom + Ear Pluck + Shaved Feet 1 ½ hours
Standard Poodle Bath & Biscuit + Full Groom + Ear Pluck + Shaved Feet 2 - 3 hours
Golden/Labrador Retriever Bath & Biscuit Package + Furminator De-Shedding Treatment 1 - 1 ½ hours

If I have more than one dog, can they come in for grooming at the same time?

As long as your dogs get along with one another and are relatively well-behaved, we have no problem with more than one coming in together to be groomed. In fact, it often provides a greater level of comfort for the dogs to have their brother or sister with them, and allows the groomer to better manage the time allotted. If we have more than one groomer working on the day in question, the same groomer may not be able to do all of your dogs. If you want a particular groomer, we may ask you to bring them in one at a time so that we only have one dog per groomer here at a time.

On a day when we only have one groomer working, we would still book the same amount of time as if they came in separately but only one would be groomed at a time. Any others will rest, play with toys or simply wait and watch while the other is being groomed. This is a very common occurrence at Rub-a-Dub Dog and has even been extended to family members who have dogs that know and love each other even if they don't live in the same household. The greatest number of dogs that we have taken at a time is 3 but feel free to inquire based on your individual needs.

Do you offer mobile grooming?

Currently, we do not offer mobile grooming but are exploring this option and may add it as a service in the future.

Do you offer pick-up and drop-off services?

Our sister company Home Sweet Home Pet Care has a Pet Chauffeur service option that will pick dogs up and bring them to the spa, and return them to their home or other destination as needed. Please ask about this service and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. If we cannot provide Chauffeur service, we can refer you to another service that we work with at times.
